Learning is better together

GitHubbers @jesseplusplus, @donal, and local community mentors, will be on hand to walk you through the Hello World tutorial, answer your questions, help you create your first open source project and achieve your first merged pull request.

We’ll begin with a story about getting started in open source, spend time on the tutorial in small groups, and then close things out with a lightning talk from open source community member.

Details

Once registered, you’ll receive an email before the event with details about the tutorial. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Mentors, you’ll receive an email a few days before the event with details about what to expect and the curriculum. We’ll be teaching Git concepts and making a Pull Request using the GitHub Flow and Hello World tutorial guide.

It’s time for the second meetup!

  • Debugging with Git - Ryan Dao

    Git is more than just a version control system. It’s also one of the best debugging tools if used correctly. In this talk I’m going to show how Git and Delta Debugging can be used to help identify issues in your codebase.

  • Interactive rebasing with Git - Jason Chionh

    In this short talk, we’ll go through the command “git rebase -i”. This is git rebasing in interactive mode. You can use it to organize local commit history. Specifically, we’ll look at squashing many commits into one commit and re-ordering commits.
